Hallco® CAOP is based on high purity calcium hydroxide and 20% Plasthall® DOP. Wetting out the powdery, fluffy calcium hydroxide with dioctyl phthalate does several functions. First, housekeeping problems associated with weighing, pouring, and mixing (particularly mill mixing) are significantly reduced. Any tendency of the calcium hydroxide to be hydroscopic is minimized as the DOP forms a protective barrier against exposure to moisture in the plant environment. Wetting out with DOP also gives the powder some weight and bite to aid in speedy incorporation on the mill or in the Banbury. The high purity of the calcium hydroxide used in Hallco® CAOP speeds the cure, prevents porosity, and acts as an acid receptor. It is used as an acid receptor. The amount of DOP wetting agent is normally not sufficient to affect any curing or processing properties of the fluoroelastomer polymers.
